Day 23 - 23rd January 2016

Old Ladder

This is in our garden.  In the summer, it will be covered in climbing flowers.

Day 22 - 22nd January 2016

Thurmaston, Leicestershire

Thurmaston is divided by a dual carriageway which carries the main road to and from Leicester. In 2011, the rather gloomy subway under the road was transformed by wall paintings representing local scenes.  It may feature again in this series as it is close to home and provides easy subject matter for those days on which it is difficult to find time to take a photograph.

Day 21 - 21st January 2016

Mountsorrel is a canal side village to the north of Leicester.  This sculpture references the many swans that live in the area.  No sculptor is credited as far as I can see.

Day 8 - 8th January 2016

Life by Percy Brown

Detail of a sculpture on the campus of the University of Leicester.

Here is the whole work:

I would have liked there to be something more interesting to see through the aperture.  Looking the other way was worse!

Day 7 - 7th January 2016

This sculpture at Thurmaston Shopping Centre represents Tony Allcock M.B.E. He was the World Bowls champion fifteen times and was born in Thurmaston on June 11th 1955. The sculpture is by Martin Williams.

The days are short at this time of the year. Work commitments this week have meant that most of the photographs have had to be taken at the end of the day when darkness has fallen. I have been using the Night Mode on the A Better Camera app to take the photographs. It seems to work well but you do have to hold the phone very still as several different shots are taken.

Day 6 - 6th Janaury 2016

Thurmaston, Leicestershire

Today was my last chance to photograph the Christmas tree in our village until the next festive season.  I used the night setting on the A Better Camera app to take the photograph before processing it in Instagram.

Day 5 - 5th January 2016

Christmas illuminations at Beaumont Leys, Leicester

Taken on twelfth night - and so these will be switched off tomorrow night.

Day 4 - 4th January 2016

Standing stones at the Northampton North Services on the M1

I left it late to get my photograph today.  I stopped at a service station on my way home and found these stones which I decided would make as good a subject as I was going to find given that it was now dark.

Day 3 - 3rd January 2016

The Green Man

When the days are short and the weather is foul, people trying to complete Project 365 need to look indoors.  This Green Man lives in our conservatory.

Day 1 - 1st January 2016

Self Portrait

I decided to start with a self-portrait - partly because Dale Foshe's 52 Week Photography Challenge (which I am also trying to complete) starts with a self-portrait.  I took this in the garden using the Lumia Selfie app on my Lumia 640 and then processed it in Instagram.  I cropped it closely partly to reduce the background and partly to see how it would look.  Here is an alternative edit:

I think that I prefer this one.
